It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Philip Reany, Jr. who served nearly a decade on the Longwood Central School District Board of Education, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017.

Longwood High School senior Jacob Brill has been named the first place winner (Division #4) in the 2017 School Bus Safety Poster Contest.

Five Longwood High School students have been recognized for exemplary musical excellence, and have been selected to attend the prestigious New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Conference held in Rochester, NY from November 30 – December 3, 2017.

The District is proud to announce that Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Personnel and Community Services Vaughn Denton has completed the requirements for a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree. Dr. Denton received his doctorate from St. Johns University in Educational Administration and Supervision.

High School senior Alyssa Arbuiso has been selected as a Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar-Artist for the 2017-2018 school year. Alyssa was recognized for her achievement in theater and is now eligible to earn scholar-artist scholarships from several Long Island colleges.

Eric Sorenson has been appointed as the new assistant principal of Longwood High School.

On Monday, September 25, 2017, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Longwood Junior High School will host a free Community Connection program and BBQ at First Baptist Church in Coram.

For the tenth consecutive year, students at Charles E. Walters (CEW) Elementary School have been named recipients of the Summer Reading Club Champions banner from the Longwood Public Library’s Summer Reading Contest.

At the August 24, meeting, the Longwood Board of Education presented community resident Christopher Reilly with the Carl Verdi Community Pride Award. This annual award recognizes a person who, over a sustained period, has built lasting bridges between the school district and the community.

The Longwood Board of Education has unanimously approved the appointment of Stephanie Columbia as Director of Mental Health Services and Student Attendance, effective July 6, 2017.

The District's Annual Charity Golf Outing held at Spring Lake Golf Club in Middle Island gathered more than 140 golfers and raised much-needed funds for Longwood families in need.

At their annual reorganization meeting for the 2016-2017 school year, the Longwood Board of Education elected Daniel Tomaszewski as president. Mr. Tomaszewski is beginning his 14th year of service on the board and sixth year as president. Frank Muraca will serve as vice president for the second consecutive year.
