When West middle Island
Elementary School opened its doors in 1956, it was a community
school. Today, although we service a larger population, WMI is
still a community school. We are located on Long Island,
approximately 80 miles east of Manhattan. Students attending WMI
are from several surrounding towns, including Middle Island.
West Middle Island School is one of four elementary
schools in the Longwood Central School District. We maintain two
buildings onsite, educating approximately 950 students in
kindergarten through fourth grade.
We believe children learn in many places: at home, in a
school classroom, outdoors, and at neighborhood activities. As a
community of learners, we all learn from one another and grow
intellectually from experiences we share. Through hard work and
interactive class experiences, we promote a lifelong love of
learning at West Middle Island Elementary School.
