Welcome from the Principal
Dear West Middle Island Families,
It is with great excitement and anticipation that I welcome you to the 2026–2027 school year! Whether you are returning to West, joining us as a new family, or sending your child off to Kindergarten for the very first time, we are so happy to have you as part of our West Middle Island community. It will not take long for our newest families to discover exactly why we say, “West is Best!”
At West Middle Island, we pride ourselves on being more than a school. We are a community where students, families, and staff work together to create a place where every child feels welcomed, supported, and encouraged to learn and grow. Strong relationships and open communication are an important part of that partnership.
Throughout the school year, families can expect regular communication through ParentSquare. Be sure to read our Weekly Update to be current on everything that is happening at West. Teachers will also use ParentSquare as their primary means of communication with families. Please be sure your contact information, including your email address and phone number, remains current in the PowerSchool Parent Portal so that you do not miss important information, events, or celebrations.
Our partnership with families extends well beyond communication. Parent and community involvement enriches the experiences we are able to provide for our students. We are fortunate to have an active and supportive West Middle Island PTA, and I encourage every family to become involved in whatever way works best for you. Whether you attend a meeting, volunteer at an event, participate in a family activity, or simply stay connected, your involvement matters.
Most importantly, please know that our doors are always open. If you have a question, concern, or something you would like to share, we encourage you to reach out. Our Primary Building, serving Grades K and 1, can be reached at 345-2755, and our Intermediate Building, serving Grades 2 through 4, can be reached at 345-2160.
The entire West Middle Island staff looks forward to partnering with you throughout the year. Together, we will create a school community where children feel a strong sense of belonging, are challenged to grow, and know that there is an entire team cheering them on.
