Hello All West Middle Island Families:

We are certainly winding down the year rather quickly.

As few reminders:

1 .PTA End of Year Party is tonight.  Please be sure to join all our West Middle Island families tonight in between the buildings.  The festivities begins at 6 pm.

2. Cub Scouts Pack 625 is looking for more members!  Please join them on this Sunday, June 12 for a BBQ and learn more about cub scouts.  We are very proud that former members of Pack 625 made a beautiful book bench for WMI.  You can come and admire the creation in the intermediate building lobby.  Please click on the flier for more information on Cub Scouts.  
3. Fourth Grade Students:   
Awards Day - Monday, June 13th.  Ceremony will take place outside on the back field at 10 am.  In the event of rain or extreme heat will follow the schedule previously distributed.  
Field Day - Rescheduled Wednesday, June 15th 9:55 - 1:00 pm. 

4.  The Renegades football league is looking for players ages 6u to 13u! Please see the link and flier below for more information!

Hello West Families
As we enter a long Memorial Day weekend, it seems like a good time to reflect and regroup.  We are so grateful to all of the men and women we have served in our military.  We thank and honor you.  It is also time to think about the week's tragic events in Texas.  Our hearts are with each family member who suffers from this horrific event.  At West, we continue to support all of our families.  If you or your child need any mental health support, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team.  Everyone processes things differently and we can help.  We are here for you.

Hello West Middle Island Families
This week we were so busy with Kindergarten Orientation, Budget Voting, and Career Week.  Thank you to everyone for making each of these events a success.

2.  4th Grade Committee Carwash Please come out on Saturday May 21 from 9 am  - 12 pm at Farmingville Applebee's to have your car washed by some of our finest 4th graders! If any fourth graders would like to help out Please email Mrs. Ennis at [email protected]. It's going to be a nice day so come on out show your support and get that pollen washed off your car!!

3.  4th Grade Families:  Lawn signs to congratulate your 4th grader are for sale Last day to order is MONDAY, May 23. Please use the flier to help you with the ordering process.
4.  Sunshine Prevention Center has scheduled summer workshops. Please see the following flier for more details.
5.  Fourth Grade Students will be taking an ELA field test on Monday.  Those students who have previously opted out for the ELA will not participate in the field test.  
6.  Summer Reading Program Please see the attached flier if you are interested in an extra reading program over the summer for your child.

Parents we need you!  Please sign up to present at our WMI Career Days. Career day for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade will take place on Monday, May 16th and for Third and Fourth Grade it will take place on Wednesday, May 18th.  
On both days from 9:20-11:30am, guest presenters will speak to a total of four classes for 10 minutes with a 5 minute question/answer session.  Check-in will be at 9:20am in the PC or IC main office.

Each week I share information pertaining to the upcoming week.  Please be sure to read this weekly email carefully because there is a lot of information for end of the year events, activities, and vital paperwork as we begin the process of preparing for next year.
Next week is Longwood Teacher Appreciation Week 
Monday - Spirit Day - wear your spiritwear to show your pride
Tuesday - Thank a Teacher Day - send a note or email to a special teacher
Wednesday - Chalk the Walk - please come up to the building and write a special message on the walkway to your teachers
Thursday - Super Hero Day - Dress as your favorite super hero to celebrate our Longwood teachers' super powers
Friday - Kindness Day - share a message of kindness to show your teachers how much they are appreciated

Grade 4 Parents: IMPORTANT YEARBOOK INFORMATION
If you would like to have a message for your 4th grader printed in the  yearbook, please complete the following form by
Saturday, April 16.  The cost is $5.00 and can be paid through wmi.memberhub.com/store
ALL PARENTS:  The PTA is having their annual nomination for elections.  Please use the following form to
nominate individuals to be on our PTA election ballot.   All responses are anonymous and confidential. The
deadline for nominations is
April 29th, 2022. Please include a telephone number or email address
for each nomination, if you have it. You may list a name for one or more positions.

4/8/22 - Hello West Families!
Please spend some time reading each of the activities and events for this coming week. There are some very specific grade level announcements as well as for the entire school.  Additionally, I hope that you have a nice spring break with your families.  As a reminder, school is closed Thursday, April 14 - Friday, April 22.

4th Grade Parents:  We need your baby pictures for the yearbook.
It’s that time of year to pick out that adorable baby photo of your 4th grader for the yearbook!! Please send in one picture with your child’s first and last name and the child’s teacher/class on the back. You can also email your photo to [email protected]. All photos must be received no later than Thursday 4/14! 

ALL PHOTOS SENT IN WILL BE RETURNED.
Kindergarten Parents:  On Tuesday, April 12 your child will be participating in The "Teddy Bear Clinic" sponsored by Stony Brook Children's Hospital.  This is an amazing program where medical professionals come to our building to teach our students about car and helmet safety, having the students dress up as doctors and nurses to help "take care" of their injured stuffed animals. PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD BRING A STUFFED ANIMAL TO SCHOOL ON TUESDAY!  Please send an animal that you do not mind having your child place bandages and medical tape on the fur. 
Wellness Workshop: Helping your Child with Anxiety.  Please join our Longwood counselors for a virtual workshop on Tuesday, April 12.   The link below includes the Google meet code for the event.

4/1/22 - Hello West Families!
A huge thank you to all of our families who sent in donations for our Ukraine supply drive.  The response was amazing.  Over the last two weeks, we were able to collect over 300 items to send to Ukraine.  Look out on Longwood social media for a big shout out to West!  Great job everyone!
Reminder that Night with my Hero is coming up on April 8th.  Please be sure to sign up.  The cost is $5.00.  There are two different time slots to choose from.  As always, this is a fantastic night event for our students to connect and have a great time with their hero.  Please see the flier for details.

3/24/22 - I hope that everyone enjoyed all of our most recent events.  It certainly has been very busy here at West.
Thank you all for your support for our supply drive for Ukraine.  Donations will be accepted through next week.  
The following are messages from the PTA:
Reminder that the 4th grade is organizing two different fundraisers:
1.  The Applebee' s Pancake breakfast on April 2, 8 am -10 am.  Tickets are $10 each.  Please be sure to have your money in by Monday! See the flier below for more details.
2.  The Shoes for Schools fundraiser:  Just bring in a pair of new or gently used pair of sneakers for recycling and our 4th grade committee receives a donation.  Spring is a great time to clean out our closets and find those sneakers and shoes that we  haven't really worn, but now they don't fit!  
Finally, PTA is sponsoring Night with My Hero on Friday, April 8.  This is always a wonderful time for your child and their special Hero.  The cost is $5 and there are two different time slots to choose from.  Please see the flier below for more details.

March 18, 2022 - Hello West Families!
This week's message is truly full of information.  Please take the time to carefully read about each event so that
your child and family are well informed of all of our activities here at West.

Lockdown Drill:  Thank you to all of the students and staff for participating in the lockdown drill this morning.
The drill was performed well by all.
FAME (Families Adding Math Everyday Week):  Next week is our annual week that we
celebrate Math all around us.  This year we have two ways for your child to participate:
1.  Sign up for the Google classroom and participate in the fun daily math activities.  Each student will receive

2. "Math that Matters" Our students will be collecting various supply items for families in Ukraine.
Please consider donating  bandaids, gauze, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby diapers. shampoo, conditioner, deodorant.
As a school we will be graphing the results of our collection.
Applebee's Pancake Breakfast: Please join us for a special pancake breakfast on April 2,
from 8 am - 10 am

Hello West Middle Island Families!
This week's email is filled with fun and exciting events at West.  Please be sure to take the time to read it thoroughly.
1. SOUP-ER Bowl Please join in the fun and excitement around the Super Bowl for our WMI SOUP-er Bowl.
We want to see which team our students are rooting for by bringing in a can and placing it in the box for either
the Rams or the Bengals.  All donations will be brought to our local food pantry, Branches.
They will be the true winner of our event!
2.  Drama Club for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students We are very excited to bring back our
drama club to WMI.  Mrs. Serrano will be coming back as the director of The Wizard of Oz.  Please click on the link

3.  District Mental Health Newsletter We all know that mental health is vital to our students,

Principal's Weekly Message:

PARP - West Middle Island Pick a Reading Partner (PARPis well under way.  You should have received a folder this week with all of our activities.  If you haven't done so already, please take time this weekend to look through the activity calendar and plan on participating in all of the fun.  My favorite activity is "Read to the Principal".  I can't wait to have the opportunity to read with our students in my office.

Headphones:  Please be reminded that your child needs a pair of headphones to use in school.  Double check with your child that the pair they brought in at the beginning of school is working properly.  Your child will be using a chromebook frequently in the classroom and headphones assist them with their work.
